Pier Ministry: Where the Church and Community Intersect.

In an age where people are going to church less frequently and people are leaving the church, the traditional mindset of "come to us" is no longer effective. Pier Ministry is a new framework to do ministry where the church looks beyond their four walls to identify and serve the needs of the community through business and ministry ventures that meet people’s needs. Come hear how the church started an auto repair shop, an appliance store, home & lawn care, Journeys Coffeehouse, a grocery store and other ministries that can intersect in people’s lives and make a difference in their eternity.

Presenter: Ed Doerner
Ed Doerner currently serves as the Senior Pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Midland, Michigan. As part of his theological training, Ed has traveled across the globe, serving and working alongside various cultures and nationalities.  Having served in Guatemala for two years and starting two new churches, Ed has put what he learned into practice in the Midland area.

Over the past eight years under Ed's leadership, Messiah has watched God open doors into the community through various non-traditional business and ministry ventures, including: an automotive garage, coffee shops, housing, and job creation opportunities. By addressing the needs of the Midland community and bridging these needs through ministry opportunities, the concept of Pier Ministry was born and continues to grow significantly.
